COP 19, the annual UN global warming mega jamboree has opened in Warsaw. The lead negotiator for the Philippines, Yeb Sano, was one of the first speakers:
1145 - There is now a three minutes silence for the tragedy in the Philippines. Delegates are on their feet. Some are joining Sano in shedding tears for the loss of lives that occurred during the typhoon.
1141 - Yeb Sano announces he will not eat during the conference, until a meaningful agreement has been achieved.
1125 - Yeb Sano, the delegate from the Philippines, is up now. This is a more emotional speech than most – the Philippines are currently suffering in the aftermath of an enormous typhoon that has left the Filipino delegation reeling in shock. All of the other countries have expressed their sympathy to the Philippines, with many wearing flowers to express their sympathy. He cracks up as he references the fact that he is speaking for those who cannot speak for themselves, having perished in Typhoon Haiyan.
Here is an excerpt from Sano's speech:
What my country is going through as a result of this extreme climate event is madness. The climate crisis is madness.
We can stop this madness. Right here in Warsaw.
It is the 19th COP, but we might as well stop counting, because my country refuses to accept that a COP30 or a COP40 will be needed to solve climate change. And because it seems that despite the significant gains we have had since the UNFCCC was born, 20 years hence we continue to fail in fulfilling the ultimate objective of the Convention. Now, we find ourselves in a situation where we have to ask ourselves – can we ever attain the objective set out in Article 2 – which is to prevent dangerous anthropogenic interference with the climate system? By failing to meet the objective the Convention, we may have ratified the doom of vulnerable countries.--
I speak for my delegation. But more than that, I speak for the countless people who will no longer be able to speak for themselves after perishing from the storm. I also speak for those who have been orphaned by this tragedy. I also speak for the people now racing against time to save survivors and alleviate the suffering of the people affected by the disaster. We can take drastic action now to ensure that we prevent a future where super typhoons are a way of life. Because we refuse, as a nation, to accept a future where super typhoons like Haiyan become a fact of life. We refuse to accept that running away from storms, evacuating our families, suffering the devastation and misery, having to count our dead, become a way of life. We simply refuse to. We must stop calling events like these as natural disasters. It is not natural when people continue to struggle to eradicate poverty and pursue development and gets battered by the onslaught of a monster storm now considered as the strongest storm ever to hit land. It is not natural when science already tells us that global warming will induce more intense storms. It is not natural when the human species has already profoundly changed the climate.
Of course we all express our sympathy to the Philippines. The typhoon that hit the island state was a terrible disaster, and the international community should be ready to offer all possible assistance to the people in need.
However, the Philippines lead negotiator who spoke in Warsaw, does not deserve our sympathy. To blame the tragic natural disaster on human caused global warming/climate change - as the Yeb Sano did in Warsaw - is preposterous and totally unfounded. There is not a shred of evidence for his claim. Instead of grandstanding in Warsaw, Mr. Sano should start eating and take the first flight home in order to join the rescue and support efforts.

Burglars busy planning 2013 Earth Hour activities

Representatives for the only group of people worldwide actually benefiting from the Earth Hour, are reportedly busy with the final planning and preparations for their 2013 Earth Hour activities.
The Earth Hour organizers and their followers in the western MSM have chosen not to report on these activities, but the police director in Davao in the Philippines volunteered this:
"Even when the lights are on at home these robbers still manage to do their thing. How much more if the lights are off"
De la Rosa also appealed to residents to avoid wearing jewelries, or bringing valuable stuffs outside their house if it is unnecessary so as not to attract the attention of criminal elements.
De la Rosa reminded everyone on the danger of attracting thieves during the Earth Hour, citing previous cases of robbery, theft and burglary victimizing unattended houses where the inhabitants are all busy with their personal schedules.
No wonder then that burglars and other criminals, who for the time being happen to be behind bars, are eagerly embracing this annual celebration of darkness:
“Earth Hour +”, the 60-minute world-wide observance of cutting down on fossil fuel use, has become a tradition of sorts for inmates of the Baguio city jail.
As cities around the world prepare to plunge in darkness for at least an hour beginning 8:30 p.m. of March 23, the prisoners and their guards plan to switch off an hour earlier to keep their four-year record of going at least two hours.

Catholic bishops urge Filipinos to recite a global warming prayer
The victims of the recent heavy floods in the Philippines deserve all our sympathy. Hopefully they will receive the assistance they need, also from the Catholic church.
However, the prayer that the secretary for the Catholic Bishops´ Conference of the Philippines urges Filipinos to recite because of the flooding is questionable, to say the least:
“We have not been good stewards of Nature.
“We have confused Your command to subdue the earth.

“Almighty Father, we raise our hearts to You in gratitude for the wonders of creation of which we are part, for Your providence in sustaining us in our needs, and for Your wisdom that guides the course of the universe.
“We acknowledge our sins against You and the rest of creation.
“We have not been good stewards of Nature.
“We have confused Your command to subdue the earth.
“The environment is made to suffer our wrongdoing, and now we reap the harvest of our abuse and indifference.
“Global warming is upon us. Typhoons, floods, volcanic eruption, and other natural calamities occur in increasing number and intensity.
“We turn to You, our loving Father, and beg forgiveness for our sins.
“We ask that we, our loved ones and our hard earned possessions be spared from the threat of calamities, natural and man-made.
“We beseech You to inspire us all to grow into responsible stewards of Your creation, and generous neighbors to those in need.
“Amen.”

The Catholic church makes a serious mistake in joining the church of global warming. The radical far left enviro-fundamentalists are dangerous bedfellows for the Christian church.

"Full mobilization of the police" when Philippine prisoners celebrate Earth Hour
The close to 500 inmates of the Baguio City jail in the Philippenes "will join the world in the observance of “Earth Hour”, according to the Philippines Information Agency:
While the world-wide switch-off is set for an hour, from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m., the prisoners plan to unplug an hour or two earlier to contribute two hours or more, as they did in the last three editions of the annual campaign.
Baguio City mayor Mauricio Domogan is performing a "ceremonial swith-off", but it appears that he is not fully convinced about all aspects of the celebration of darkness in the city jail:
Domogan also called on residents to adopt security and safety measures and for the full mobilization of the police, fire and other public office personnel to guarantee success of the program.
